Hookah Etiquette

• Never light your cigarette or anything else with the coals on your hookah.

• Never put your hookah on the table (I know this could be a little inconvenient if you don't have a large hookah, but a hookah is supposed to rest on the ground, not on a table).

• Never point the end of your hookah hose at another person. In the Arab world, this is considered to be an insult equivalent to showing someone the bottom of your foot. Never set the end of your hose on the table as this insults everyone at the table. Instead, put it in your lap. When passing the hose to someone, fold it over and pass the hose to the other person with the end facing you. Always pass the hose to someone using your RIGHT hand.

• Don't smoke anything but shisha tobacco out of your hookah.

• Use the hookah hose with your RIGHT hand. The left hand is considered unclean in many countries.

• On multiple hose hookahs that don't have autoseal, those not smoking for the moment should plug their mouthpieces with a finger so that other people smoking don't suck air

• Never smoke a cigarette during a hookah smoking session. If you must, then absolutely never ash your cigarette in the hookah tray.

• Whoever packed the bowl gets the first smoke. Whoever lit the coals gets the second.

• In order to indicate that you have finished using the Hookah, wrap the Hose around the Shaft.
